Program Details
Develop and strengthen your genealogy skills! This 8-week class is intended for those who already have some familiarity and experience with family history research.
Topics covered include: An introduction to genealogical research using DNA, understanding land deeds and plotting your ancestor's land, how to find records available for family members living in the 1600 and 1700's, understanding the naturalization process and its impact on genealogical research, maximizing the resources available at historical societies and how to locate hidden manuscript collections, and utilizing federal and state records to uncover family history.
Practicum sessions are also included in the class, so you can test your newly acquired research skills by creating an action plan for a research problem and plot out a piece of land from a legal land description.
This 8-week class is intended for those who already have some familiarity and experience with family history research. Completion of Foundations of Genealogy I course, or the equivalent, is recommended.
Classes will take place on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm. Recordings of the lectures will be available if you miss a session or cannot attend live. If you would like to register after the start date of the course, these recordings will be provided so that you can catch up and join the class.
